Understanding UI GreenMetric and Its Significance
The UI GreenMetric ranking is an international benchmark that evaluates universities on their environmental performance. It examines campus operations, energy use, waste management, transportation, and overall commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By participating, institutions gain a clear picture of their strengths and areas for improvement, and they join a global community dedicated to greener higher‑education environments.
What the Ranking Measures
- Campus Environment – Air quality, green spaces, and biodiversity.
- Energy and Climate – Energy consumption, renewable sources, and carbon footprint.
- Materials and Waste – Recycling rates, waste reduction, and sustainable procurement.
- Transportation – Public transit access, cycling infrastructure, and vehicle emissions.
- Governance and Engagement – Policies, student participation, and community outreach.
Alte University’s inclusion in the 2025 UI GreenMetric list marks the first time a Georgian institution has entered this global arena, positioning the university as a regional leader in environmental responsibility.
