Supported by the multidisciplinary background of its 13 faculties, the University plays a leading role as both a research and education institution and serves as the intellectual center of Eastern Hungary. This scholarship supports students pursuing studies in various fields, including Natural Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, and Health Sciences.
The UD International Scholarship Program at Debrecen University offers foreign students:
- Tuition Fee Discount: Varies by program, with up to 30% off for Medicine and Dentistry, and up to 90% for other programs, based on educational background and entrance exam results.
- Medical Insurance: Comprehensive coverage included, ensuring access to essential healthcare throughout studies.
1. Eligibility
- The student must be a non-Hungarian citizen.
- Undergraduate Program: Applicants must be high school graduates or currently in their final year of high school at the time of application.
- Graduate Program: Applicants must hold a BSc/BA degree or be in their final year of BSc/BA studies at the time of application.
- Students must possess a passport/national ID upon application.
- students must have completed their application accurately, submitted all application documents, and paid the application fee to the University’s bank account.
- During the application process, applicants must meet the entrance examination requirements set by the chosen degree program.
2. Available Study Programs
Explore a wide range of full-time undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the University of Debrecen under the UD International Scholarship. This scholarship is exclusively for incoming freshmen applying to eligible programs.
- Single Program Choice: Applicants may select only one study program to apply for.
- Full-Time Degree Studies Only: The program is limited to full-time degree studies; exchange programs or partial studies are not eligible.
- Freshman Applications: Only applications from incoming freshmen are considered. Applications for transfers aiming to higher year levels are not accepted.
- Excludes Doctoral Programs: PhD programs are not included in the scholarship program.

3. Application Timeline
Scholarship applications are available starting 26th March 2021.
Application deadline: 30th April
Application evaluation and entrance exam period: 30th April – 15th May 2021.
Announcement of selection results: 30th May 2021.
Deadline for acceptance of admission: 30th June, 2021.
*The exact date and method of the entrance examination vary by faculty. Each applicant will receive personalized updates, including details such as examination dates, directly from their Admissions Coordinator at the University of Debrecen.
4. Required Documents
- Online application form: The applicant must fill out and save all requested information in English on the online form.
- Motivation Letter: At least one page, typed in 12-point Times New Roman font.
- 2 Recommendation Letters
- A scanned copy of the original proof of language proficiency, demonstrating a minimum level of B2 (CEFR), or an entrance interview. If the student completed their previous studies in English, they may upload documentation confirming that English was the language of instruction.
- Academic Certificates and their translations, such as:
- Bachelor Level: A scanned copy of the original secondary school graduation certificate or its equivalent, along with its English translation if the original is in another language.
- Master’s Level: A scanned copy of the original Bachelor’s degree certificate or its equivalent, along with its English translation if the original is in a different language.
- Transcript of Records and their translations for all academic semesters or school years completed at the highest level of education, along with English translations if the originals are in another language.
- Copy of Identification Document: If the applicant has a passport, upload a scanned copy of the passport’s data page. If a passport is not yet available, upload a scanned copy of the national ID card.
- Medical Certificate. The template can be found at.unideb.hu
- The bank receipt for the transfer of the application fee is 150 USD (non-refundable).
- Special requirements for applications to Master’s programs: Submit a detailed CV, Bachelor’s degree certificate, comprehensive transcript, and descriptions of courses taken during undergraduate studies.
