Record-Breaking Performance at Inter-Club Swimming Championship
Near East University (NEU) is proud to announce the outstanding achievements of its Sports Club athletes at the recent Inter-Club Swimming Championship held in Nicosia, Cyprus. The NEU team dominated the competition, securing a remarkable 54 medals, including 27 golds, showcasing their dedication and talent.
Dominating the Competition
The NEU Sports Club’s young athletes demonstrated exceptional skills and determination throughout the three-day championship, held at the Near East University Olympic Swimming Pool. The team’s hard work and rigorous training paid off, culminating in a well-deserved victory in the “Star Boys” category and a commendable second-place finish in the “Young Girls” category. The athletes’ remarkable performance resulted in a total of 54 medals: 27 gold, 16 silver, and 11 bronze.
Individual Achievements and National Team Qualifications
Beyond the team’s overall success, several individual athletes achieved outstanding results, breaking records and qualifying for national-level competitions. Barkan Cem Aykut set a new TRNC Short Course Record in the 50-meter breaststroke with an impressive time of 00:30.51. This accomplishment, along with other exceptional performances, earned him the right to participate in competitions in Turkey, having surpassed the Turkish Swimming Federation (TYF) age group and national team thresholds.
Akman Tüzünkan also shone brightly, exceeding the TYF 14 and 15 age thresholds and the national team threshold in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 00:29.28. Özkan Mazhar demonstrated remarkable versatility by surpassing age group thresholds in the 100-meter backstroke and the 200 and 400-meter mixed races, even achieving the national team threshold in the 100-meter backstroke. Erten Can Kasımoğlu further contributed to the individual success stories by surpassing the TYF 13-year-old threshold in the 50-meter breaststroke.
